Day 1: Beijing
7pm: Meet Tour representative and your group for a fun evening of food, drinks and conversation. We will hand out the DPRK visas at this time, and go over other logistics to prepare you for a trip of a lifetime! Please let us know in advance if you will not be able to make this dinner.

Day 2: Beijing - Pyongyang
Head to Terminal 2, Air Koryo counter, of the Beijing Capital International Airport to check in (flight times to be confirmed but usually Air Koryo flights depart at 1pm). Fly to Pyongyang, capital of the DPRK and home to many of the country's most famous cultural sites. Local tour guides greet you at the airport. Your overnight stay will be at the Yanggakdo International Hotel. En route to hotel, stop at the Arch of Triumph, the world's largest triumphal arc.  Check into the hotel and enjoy a welcome dinner.  Optional summer event: Hang with the locals at the Kaeson Youth Amusement Park, a popular DPRK amusement park.

Day 3: Pyongyang City Tour
AM: Start the morning off at the Mansudae Grand Monument. This important site is famous for its large, bronze statutes of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. Visitors are sometimes asked to follow local custom by bowing and laying flowers at the feet of the statues. Take a tour of the Grand People's Study House, a national library used to house Korean language and foreign books, and to hold recreational classes on a variety of subjects. Then take a walk in the Kim Il Sung Square, the 3rd largest public square in the world and home to many of the North Korean military parades broadcasted internationally during large holiday events. Stop in at the Foreign Languages Bookshop to pick up your favorite DPRK trinkets and publications and continue your Pyongyang city tour on foot along the Taedong River Promenade.

PM: After lunch, visit the newly renovated Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum and the USS Pueblo in its new spot (the ¡°American Spy Ship¡± captured in 1968). At the Tower of Juche Idea, learn about the Juche philosophy that serves as the national ideology. For those who wish to take the lift up 150-meters to the top, you'll have an opportunity to take in a panorama view of the entire Pyongyang city. Later that afternoon, check out local artists at the Mansudae Art Studio, where you can purchase local artwork, paintings, embroideries, and ceramics (for serious art buyers, note that only foreign currency cash is accepted and artwork can run upwards in the 1,000s). Dinner will be at the Manbok Restaurant on the newly renovated Changjon Street. After dinner, walk the streets of Pyongyang admist the fluorescent lights of the new residential high-rises.

Day 4: Kaesong / DMZ
AM: Depart bright and early for Kaesong, the ancient capital of the Koryo Dynasty. Known for its cultural and culinary richness, Kaesong was widely regarded as the intellectual hub of Korea. During this 2-hour drive through the countryside, we'll hear from our guides a perspective of the Korean War that oft gets discredited or unheard. At the DMZ, we will explore Panmunjom, shake hands at the exact place that the Armistice Agreement was signed between UN forces and the DPRK, and wave hello to the South at the blue houses.
PM: Enjoy Pansanggi, the traditional Kaesong cuisine for lunch. Learn about the Koryo Dynasty (where the name Korea originates) at the Koryo History Musuem. Pick up some of the best postcards in the country at the Koryo Stamp Shop. Return to Pyongyang for a visit to the Mangyongdae Native House, birthplace of Kim Il Sung. Then travel into the ground to take a ride on the Pyongyang Metro, the deepest metro in the world. In the evening, we'll have pizza and pasta at Pyongyang's own Italian Specialty Restaurant ($5-$10 per entree) and taste local beer at the Rakwon Paradise Microbrewery (less than $1 draft beers!).
