Day 1: Beijing
AM: Your tour begins in Beijing, China! After arriving, you'll check in at the Holiday Inn Express Beijing Dongzhimen (or similar hotel) located near the popular Sanlitun Village.

PM: One of our Beijing team members will welcome you in the lobby of the hotel at 7pm and will host the group to a traditional Beijing dinner which will include great fun, great people and a brief orientation to answer any last minute questions about your trip.

Day 2: Beijing - Pyongyang
AM: We'll all meet in the hotel lobby, where you will receive your DPRK visa and take group transportation to Beijing Capital International Airport. From here, we'll fly to Pyongyang, home to many of North Korea's most famous cultural sites.

PM: Our top-notch local guides will meet us at the Pyongyang airport and accompany us to the Yanggakdo International Hotel.  En route, we'll stop at the DPRK's Arch of Triumph, the largest triumphal arch in the world. Afterwards, we'll check in and enjoy a welcome dinner. Optional bar night at the Rakwon Paradise Brewery.

Day 3: Kaesong and the DMZ
AM: Early morning departure for Kaesong, the ancient capital of the Koryo dynasty and home to 12 newly appointed UNESCO World Heritage sites. We'll visit the De-Militarized Zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea (which ironically is one of the most heavily militarized places in the world). Participate in tour by a North Korean military officer who will take you to the ¡°front lines¡± between North and South Korea, to the building where the Armistice Agreement ending the Korean War in 1953 was signed, and to the neutral blue houses where diplomatic discussions are sometimes held.

PM: For lunch, we'll enjoy a traditional Kaesong style meal called Pansanggi. Afterwards, we'll take a quick tour of the Koryo History Museum and pick up DPRK stamps and postcards at the Koryo Stamp Shop. En route back to Pyongyang, we'll view the Sonjuk Bridge and the Mausoleum of King Wanggon, two of the new UNESCO World Heritage sites. Once back in Pyongyang, we'll have an optional skating trip to the Pyongyang Ice Skate Park (be warned: the park will be packed with local kids who love to skate!) and dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 4: Pyongyang City Tour
AM: Begin the day with a trip to Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, the most revered site in Pyongyang, where the late leaders lie in state. Visit the Grand People's Study House, Pyongyang's 100,000 square meter central library. Then take a walk in the Kim Il Sung Square, the 3rd largest public square in the world and home to many of the North Korean military parades broadcasted internationally during large holiday events. Stop in at the Foreign Languages Bookshop to pick up your favorite DPRK trinkets and publications. Follow this up with the Tower of Juche Idea, a 150-meter granite monument dedicated to the Juche principle developed by Kim Il Sung during the three decades following the Korean War.

PM: After lunch, journey 360 feet underground to the Pyongyang Metro, one of the deepest metros in the world, where you'll ride along side the working residents of Pyongyang.

Day 5: General Kim Jong Il Birthday Celebration
AM:Today, we'll visit the Mansudae Grand Monument, one of the most well recognized sites in the DPRK. This monument is famous for its large, bronze statutes of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. Visitors are sometimes asked to follow local custom by bowing and laying flowers at the feet of the statues. Next, we'll head over to see the annual exhibition of Kimjongilia, a flower specially bred in honor of General Kim Jong Il.

PM: During the afternoon, we'll look for the chance to catch one of the mass dances that often materialize during this holiday.  Explore the North Korean perspective on the Korean War at the newly renovated Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum and visit the USS Pueblo, the famous ¡°American Spy Ship¡± captured in 1968.

Finally, we'll have a great farewell meal of pizza and pasta with our local guides at Pyongyang's own Italian Specialty Restaurant.
