This tour starts in Kunming, the capital of the Yunnan Province. You drive along the highway to Yunnan Yi. It also served as a base for the legendary Flying Tigers, a group of daredevil American pilots hailed for their spectacular victories over the Japanese air force. Visit the Flying Tiger Museum. From Yunnan Yi we continue to the charming town of Weishan, located about 52 kilometers south of Dali.  Weishan was once an important and wealthy trading town during the Nanzhao Kingdom throughout the 8th and 9th century. The area around Weishan is also regarded as the birthplace of Xinulou, the first emperor and founder of the Nanzhao Kingdom.

Old town Dali lies on the western edge of Erhai Lake with the imposing 4000m high Cang Mountain Range behind it. During the Tang Dynasty (618 ¨C 907) Dali was an important trading town and part of the Nanzhao Kingdom. At that time, the Nanzhao Kingdom covered an area which included parts of present day Burma, Laos and Thailand.  Following the Nanzhao Kingdom was the Kingdom of Dali (938-1253) of which Dali became the capital. The End of the Dali Kingdom came with the invasion of Kublai Khan¡¯s army in 1253.

Three Parallel Rivers National Park
The overnight stay in the romantic atmosphere of a 150 year old Bai house in Shaxi is as well of a highlight as the 3 hours walk up Mount Qian Gui, which is part of the Three-Parallel-Rivers-National Park. Millions of years of erosion left behind a magnificent landscape resembling a tortoise shell. On a clear day, Mount Qiangui also offers spectacular views of the surrounding red cliffs and the Huang Mountains in the distance.

A glimpse of Tibet Shangrila
Through the spectacular and rugged landscape of the Yangtze Valley we reach Zhongdian, where colorful prayer flags, grazing Yak herds and Buddhist monasteries are constant reminders that you are now travelling on Tibetan soil. Visit the idyllic Bita Hai within the Pudacuo National Park. Especially in spring when the rhododendron bushes are blooming and during the changing autumn colors this is an especially rewarding experience.

Tiger Leaping Gorge and Ancient Town of Lijiang.
On the way to the famous old town of Lijiang we stop at the impressive Tiger Leaping Gorge. Wedged between the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and the Haba Mountain, the impressive Tiger Leaping Gorge is reputedly the world¡¯s deepest canyon!
