Arrival in Kunming. Transfer to your hotel.

After breakfast we take a stroll through the nearby Green Lake Park, a popular gathering point for the local population, to see the locals engaged in their morning workouts, practice Tai Chi, show off their birds and enjoy social dancing. Drive to the Stone Forest of Lunan, where years of rain and erosion left behind a bizarre and impressive landscape of limestone pillars which, with a little imagination, indeed resembles a forest. We have a walk through the maze of paths and walkways leading through this natural wonderland and learn more about the Sani people, an ethnic minority populating the area.

Flight to Zhongdian, which recently changed its name and is now called "Shangri-La". Zhongdian is situated amongst a stunning landscape on the eastern Tibetan plateau at about 3200 meters above sea level.
Upon arrival you drive to a view point from where you enjoy a breathtaking view over the scenic Napa Lake and the surroundings. Visit the picturesque old town. We take a walking tour through the picturesque old town before heading to your hotel. In the afternoon there is time to enjoy a massage at the hotel Spa.

Day 4:   ZHONGDIAN (B)
In the morning we take a walk (30 Min) to the Songtsam Monastery, a 300 year old impressive Tibetan Monastery. From a historical point of view the Ganden Sumtseling Gompa is very significant to the region because it was inaugurated personally in the 17th century by the 5th Dalai Lama. We tour the monastery and by doing so we learn more about the Tibetan Buddhism.

Drive back to the hotel where you can enjoy a massage, have a walk in the vicinity of the hotel or simply enjoy the beautiful hotel.

Day 5:   ZHONGDIAN - BENZILAN (B/L/D) (87KM / 2.5 HRS)
We leave Zhongdian and head further north towards the town of Nixi. Nixi is famous for its black pottery production. Continue to Benzilan. The town of Benzilan is located on the shores of the Yangtze River and has an all year round mild and fertile climate. Check in at the hotel and lunch.

In the afternoon we take a relaxing walk to a secluded Tibetan village. Dinner and overnight accommodation takes place at a tastefully furnished small boutique lodge outside Benzilan.

Day 6:   BENZILAN (B/L/D)
About 10km north of Benzilan we visit one of the most important Tibetan monasteries in the area, the Dhondrumping Gompa, which originally was constructed in 1667. In Shuzhong we visit the Shuzhong Nunnery. The Dhondrumping Monastery and the Shuzhong Nunnery are both sub-monasteries of the Songtsalin Monastery in Zhongdian.

The remaining afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the beautiful Lodge. Take a leisurely walk through the pristine nature surrounding the hotel.

Day 7:   BENZILAN - TACHENG (B/L/D) (140km/3.5 HRS)
We leave the beautiful Lodge and head back south to Nixi before the road winds its way down a steep slope into the impressive Yangtze valley. Here the Yangtze River is still called the Jin Sha Jiang (Golden Sand River). With 6400km the Yangtze River is the 3rd longest river in the world. We follow the River in a southern direction towards Tacheng. The idyllic Tacheng village is tucked away in a small side valley of the Yangtze River. Check In at the tastefully furnished boutique style lodge. Lunch at the lodge.

The afternoon leaves time to take a stroll through the nearby village or relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery from the comfort of the balcony of your room.

Day 8:   TACHENG 每 TIGER LEAPING GORGE 每 LIJIANG (B) (160km/4 hrs)
In the Morning we visit the Tacheng Nature Reserve. This Nature Reserve is home to the Yunnan Snub Nosed Golden Monkeys. They get their names from the short stump of a nose on their round faces, with nostrils arranged forward. Some of the monkeys do not seem to be disturbed by the presence of humans which offers a good chance to observe these endangered animals from a close distance.

Drive along the Yangtze River to Qiaotou located at the entrance of the Tiger Leaping Gorge. Wedged between the Jade Dragon Mountain and the Haba Mountain range the Tiger Leaping Gorge is reputedly the world's deepest canyon. We walk down into the Gorge and witness the power of the water squeezing its way through the narrow, at some places only 15m wide gorge. Drive to Lijiang.

Day 9:   LIJIANG (B)
First thing in the morning you take a stroll through the apparently countless and, on first sight, confusing narrow lanes and canals crisscrossing the picturesque old town. We also learn more about the secrets of the mystic Naxi culture. Part of Lijiang old town was listed by the UNESCO as a World Heritage site in 1992. The afternoon is at leisure to explore the Old Town on your own or enjoy a massage at the Hotel Spa.

In the morning we make an excursion the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, located about 30km north of Lijiang. A ride in the modern and reportedly Asia's highest cable car brings you up to 4'506 meters above sea level from where one enjoys breathtaking views over the glacier and the surrounding mountains. During the summer month you can take a stroll along the wooden walkway. By cable car we return back down. We take a 2.5 hours hike in the shadow of the Jade Dragon Mountain through Pine tree forests and beautiful Mounatin scenery. From there drive by car to the village of Yuhu, a romantic village where the Austrian-American Botanist Joseph Rock used to live from 1922 to 1949. Continue to the wonderful "Black Dragon Pool" Park, from where, weather permitting, one has a spectacular view of the "Jade Dragon Snow Mountain".  In the evening time for an optional visit to a traditional Dongba-Music concert.

Transfer to the airport or train station.
